The shift to electric mobility is happening faster than ever, and ABB is playing a leading role in building the charging solutions that make it possible. From compact wall-mounted AC chargers for home use to powerful DC fast chargers and innovative bus charging systems, ABB provides a complete portfolio to support the next generation of smart, reliable, and zero-emission transport. With a strong global track record, ABB is helping both private and public sectors move towards cleaner and smarter mobility.
Singapore is a great showcase of how ABB’s technology is shaping the future of transport. The local energy provider SP Group has chosen ABB to support its ambitious plan of rolling out 1,000 EV charging points across the city. These chargers, designed to power up a vehicle in about 30 minutes, are accelerating EV adoption in the city-state.
ABB has also teamed up with Shell, installing its Terra 54 DC fast chargers at 10 Shell petrol stations across the island. These chargers can bring a vehicle’s battery from 0 to 80 percent in roughly half an hour. Tested rigorously to ensure safe performance in fuel station environments, they are compatible with most EV models on the road today.
ABB’s charging technology is not only about private car users—it also supports public transport and shared mobility.
In Singapore, ComfortDelGro, one of the world’s largest transport operators, has put two fully electric Hyundai Ioniq taxis on trial. Using ABB’s Terra 53 DC fast charger, each taxi takes under 30 minutes for a full charge, providing more than 200 km of driving range. What makes this even more attractive is cost: charging with electricity is roughly one-third the price of diesel for the same distance.
In Milan, Italy, ABB is supporting the city’s ambitious plan to replace all 1,200 diesel buses with fully electric ones by 2030. Several depots are being converted into charging hubs equipped with 100 kW ABB chargers, modular transformer stations, and smart algorithms to optimize charging schedules. By late 2021, Milan had already deployed 167 electric buses and eight terminus stations fitted with 200 kW pantograph chargers. These powerful systems deliver around 35 kWh in just 8–10 minutes, enough to keep buses running smoothly between depot trips.
Beyond cars and buses, ABB is also enabling large-scale industrial transport to go electric. At PSA Singapore’s Tuas Port, ABB is providing charging infrastructure for a fleet of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) that will handle container movements. Once completed in 2040, Tuas Port will be the world’s largest fully automated container terminal, with an annual handling capacity of 65 million TEUs. ABB’s robust charging solutions will ensure these AGVs operate efficiently around the clock, supporting the port’s automation and sustainability goals.
With decades of expertise in power and automation, ABB has become the partner of choice for the world’s top EV manufacturers and charging network operators. The company’s ability to design, install, and maintain advanced charging systems has been proven in projects across Europe, Asia, and beyond.
Whether it’s private cars, electric buses, shared fleets, or automated transport vehicles, ABB’s technology offers reliable, safe, and efficient charging solutions. From urban fast-charging stations to large-scale fleet depots, ABB is building the backbone of tomorrow’s electric mobility.
As more EVs hit the roads, the demand for reliable charging infrastructure continues to grow. ABB’s role is clear: to make charging faster, smarter, and more accessible for everyone. By combining cutting-edge technology with global experience, ABB is not just keeping pace with the EV revolution—it is helping to drive it forward.
From Singapore’s city streets to Milan’s bus depots and global megaprojects like Tuas Port, ABB is proving every day that sustainable mobility is possible, practical, and already here.
